MathWorks Embedded Coder

Testing model and code in one integrated, ISO 26262 certified environment.

Introduction

About Embedded Coder

Embedded Coder from MathWorks generates production C code from Simulink/Stateflow models. But taking advantage of Embedded Coder in an ISO 26262 compliant workflow also means covering model-in-the-loop testing (MIL), software-in-the-loop testing (SIL), back-to-back testing and code coverage analysis. BTC TestStack integrates all of these workflows in one certified environment.

BTC TestStack

MIL/SIL testing for Embedded Coder

Test project creation is fully automated, with no manual interaction required: BTC TestStack analyzes the model architecture to detect subsystems, ports, parameters, test points, data types and ranges. Because a test tool should never touch or modify the system-under-test, harness creation and test execution happen on a temporary copy of the model, making it easy to manage model and test data independently — and all of it happens in the background, requiring no manual input.

For software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing, BTC TestStack always uses the original production code together with a dedicated, automatically managed test harness.

Hierarchical test approach

Easily test on all subsystem levels

In large Embedded Coder models, individual test cases often need to run against a smaller subsystem or sub-function, but isolating that subsystem for harness creation can mean time-consuming, error-prone manual work and extra artifacts to store and maintain.

With BTC TestStack's hierarchical test approach, this is handled automatically in the background — the needed harnesses on model and code level are generated on the fly from the original model, so they never need to be stored or manually updated.

Certified

ISO 26262

BTC TestStack (the successor to BTC EmbeddedPlatform, including BTC EmbeddedTester BASE, BTC EmbeddedTester, BTC EmbeddedSpecifier and BTC EmbeddedValidator) has been certified by German TÜV Süd as fit for use in safety-critical software development projects.

The certificate addresses functional-safety standards across multiple industries:

TÜV SÜD CertifiedISO 26262 / ASIL DTCL 3IEC 61508-3ISO 25119IEC 62304EN 50716

For ISO 26262, BTC TestStack is certified with the highest Tool Confidence Level (TCL), valid for all ASIL levels including ASIL D. We provide the certificate and report to customers free of charge on request — removing most tool-qualification effort on the customer side.
